Melodica Festival Groningen
The Melodica festival is a unique, worldwide concept that has its origins in Australia. The festivals are intimate, available for everyone (the entrance fee is "give what you want") and all about acoustic/folk music and songwriting.
We thought the time was right for a change of scenery. Therefore we decided to move to 2 new locations, where we without a doubt will be able to recreate the fantastic atmosphere of the first three editions.
On Friday night we start at 20.30 at the fantastic Bax Bier brewery. The Grand Theatre will be our fine new location on Saturday (from 15:30 until midnight) and Sunday (13:00 to 18:00).
21 Bands and songwriters, (inter)national guests and a lot of attention for the local scene as well. Keep an eye on Melodica Festival Groningen for program updates!
Some of the names already announced:
Black Oak (NL),
Vkings in Tibet (Groningen),
Lasse Mathiessen (Denmark) and Meadows (Sweden).
This edition of the Melodica Festival Groningen showcases 21 artists, from local talents to international acts that have already turned themselves into household names.
Please let us introduce them to you one by one:
Johanna Amelie is a songwriter from Berlin who has already seen stages in huge parts of Europe, including other Melodicas. Now Groningen, we're delighted!
Kristine Hoelgaard is a singer from Odense, Denmark. One of her YouTube videos actually features a melodica!
The Danish musician Lasse Matthiessen is a guarantee for dark, expressive yet poppy musings. He will bring his band and it's gonna be grand.
Blue Eskimo is a new duo formed by Suze & Melle. One of the local talents that will most likely gain some following during the festival!
Ruud Fieten is an upcoming Dutch songwriter. His EP 'In Orbit' showcases his talent for melody and fingerpicking, combined with a strong, recognizable voice.
Vikings in Tibet
Vikings in Tibet (a band from Groningen), known for their dynamic live performances, will perform an intimate set that most likely will feature songs from their new album 'Alchemy Ave'.
Already a household name in the Groningen scene, our favourite indie shoegaze whatever rockers from Groningen. Kinoo will play at our opening night in Bax Bier Proeflokaal.
Sólin is the artist formerly known as Roosmarijn. A very talented Dutch singer/violinist that will most likely mesmerize the Melodica crowd on Saturday.
Cub & Wolf
Cub & Wolf are a band from Malmö, Sweden and make beautiful, slightly melancholic pop music. They will enlighten us on Saturday in the Grand Theatre.
Next Stop Horizon
You'll not get bored listening to their eclectic mix of electronic and folk instruments, to which they add their flawless voices in the most beautiful ways.
Meadows is the moniker of Örebro's own Christoffer Wadensten. His new album 'The Only Boy Awake' is full of gorgeous indie folk.
We all know Douwe Doorduin as the singer and guitarist of garage rockers The Black Cult. On our opening night though, at 8:30 pm, he will show the Melodica crowd at the Bax Bier Brewery a different side of his musical spectrum by performing on his own, under his own name.
Olaf Kock is the singer in German band dogsrunfree, but also performs solo. He will play his pretty folk songs for us on Friday night at the Bax Brewery.
Another talented local group, White Line consists of Jody and Rebecca who sing sweet harmonies backed by guitar and Wurlitzer piano.
Folk Road Show
Folk Road Show is a collective of 5 singer-songwriters from New Zealand, Canada and The Netherlands. With their bundled powers they create very inspiring, beautiful and energetic folkshows.
Rutger Peereboom is known as a member of Groningen indie rockers Guard Llama. Like Douwe Doorduin, he is going to perform a solo set which may surprise us all.https://www.facebook.com/Ru...
The World of Dust
The World of Dust is een soloproject van Stefan Breuer, bekend van o.a. The Subhuman, Lost Bear en I am Oak. Gegarandeerd uniek en hoogstwaarschijnlijk eenmalig.
Howling and the Moon
Frisian trio Howling & The Moon, a bunch of elderly youngsters providing lovely rootsy americana. A perfect fit for a sunny Saturday afternoon.http://bit.ly/2pa9Npt
Leipzig-based musician Peter Piek will make his debut on the Melodica Groningen stage. He will most likely gain some new fans with his rich, accessible songs and distinctive voice.
Dino Joubert is a singer songwriter from Berlin and his songs could have been written by Elliott Smith. Dino will be accompanied by his band during a few songs as well.
Black Oak is the love child of Geert van der Velde (The Black Atlantic) and Thijs Kuijken (I am Oak). These men's combined talents generate perfect synergy.

The Melodica concept has its origins in Melbourne, Australia, where the first festival took place. Europe followed swift, with editions in Berlin, Hamburg, Aarhus, Reykjavik, Vienna and Nottingham, amongst others, and new cities being added to the list.
The value of this concept keeps proving itself, in cozy bars and picturesque venues packed with listeners visibly enjoying the beautiful acoustic music.
Entry is free, but with musicians that need to undertake pricey journeys to get to us we feel obliged to at least cover the costs they make. Therefore we’ll pass around the hat to collect all cash that you can do without. That’s not too much to ask for a series of musical enjoyment, is it
